SB 58 -- BIRD APPRECIATION DAY SPONSOR: Stoll (Wagner) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Education-Elementary and Secondary by a vote of 23 to 0. This bill designates March 21 as "Bird Appreciation Day," to be observed by schools, cities, state agencies, and civic organizations with activities that enhance appreciation of birds. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that a "Bird Appreciation Day" was in statute for many years before its removal in 1973; 4,000 members of the federated garden clubs have continued to observe it and believe it should be in statute again. Testifying for the bill was Senator Stoll. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Becky DeNeve, Senior Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
